John Morrice Cairns James was born on 30 April 1916, the son of Catherine Marshall and Lewis Cairns James. He married (1) Elizabeth Margaret Roper Piesse on 14 February 1948 and then married (2) Geneviève Christianne Robert-Houdin on 29 October 1968. Morrice James died on 26 November 1989 in the South of France.
Elizabeth was born on 13 September 1929 at Oxshott, Surrey and she died on 5 November 1966. Geneviève was born on 19 August 1923 in Paris and died December 2003 in St. Tropez.
Notes: Morrice was made M.B.E. in 1944, CVO in 1961, a Privy Counsellor in 1968 and KCMG in 1975, taking the title Sir Morrice James. He was made Baron St. Brides of Hasguard in 1976. He became in turn British High Commissioner to Pakistan, India and Australia. He edited the letters written by Catherine Man and others (see bibliography). He may have chosen Hasguard as his mother Catherine and step-father Ofa had a holiday cottage at Newgale on St. Brides Bay. To read more about Morrice click HERE (<--- PDF).
